Not looking good for the Man from Chicago.

To understand what is going to happen to America’s health care delivery system, we must first understand what has happened to Detroit.

Lew Rockwell – Detroit is dying. Yes, I know that there are lots of books on “The Death of. . . .” That word sells books. But Detroit really is dying. It is the first metropolis in the United States to be facing extinction. We have never seen anything like this in American history. It is happening under our noses, but the media refuse to discuss it. To do so would be politically incorrect. Two factors tell us that Detroit is dying. The first is the departure of 900,000 people – over half the city’s population – since 1950. It peaked at 1.8 million in 1950. It is down to about 900,000 today.

In 1994, the median sales price of a house in Detroit was about $41,000. The housing bubble pushed it up to about $98,000 in 2003. In March 2009, the price was $13,600. Today, the price is $7,000.

Sarah Palin gave the keynote speech at the Tea Party Convention in Nashville on February 6, 2009. The highlight of the speech for me was when she said: "How's that hopey, changey thing working out for ya?". Now that is a classic. You can see another version of the video and also read the transcript of the speech HERE.

This is a picture of Haim Harari who is, per Wikipedia, the Chair of the Board of the Davidson Institute of Science Education at the Weizmann Institute and Chair of the Management Committee of the Weizmann Global Endowment Management Trust in New York.

Here is a speech that he delivered at a meeting of the International Advisory Board of a large multi-national corporation, April, 2004 that is worth reading start to finish. It was posted in full on Free Republic some time later. It  summarizes the problems we have with the Islamic world in much more concise way than I have previously seen. Well worth reading.

Below is the first paragraph. To read the whole speech click HERE.

A View from the Eye of the Storm

By Haim Harari

As you know, I usually provide the scientific and technological "entertainment" in our meetings, but, on this occasion, our Chairman suggested that I present my own personal view on events in the part of the world from which I come. I have never been and I will never be a Government official and I have no privileged information. My perspective is entirely based on what I see, on what I read and on the fact that my family has lived in this region for almost 200 years. You may regard my views as those of the proverbial taxi driver, which you are supposed to question, when you visit a country. Read more »
